What Guacamelee! is
Guacamelee! is a Metroidvania-style action-platformer set in a magical world inspired by traditional Mexican culture and folklore. You play as a luchador who fights evil with his fists, uncovering hidden wrestling techniques such as the Rooster Uppercut. The game blends deep melee combat with platforming, so many moves are needed both for beating enemies and for getting through obstacles. It also has a dimension switching mechanic that lets you swap between overlapping worlds, the World of the Living and the World of the Dead, to open new areas and secrets. The world is full of interesting and unique characters, and the tone leans into comedy and memes.
Playing together
The story supports drop in and drop out two-player local cooperative play from start to finish. A second player can join at any point and leave without interrupting your progress, which makes it easy to share a session with a friend on the same machine. Steam Remote Play Together is available, so a friend can join over the internet as if they were sitting next to you. Combat moves stay central to co-op play, since the same abilities are used for fighting and for clearing platforming sections.
Before you start
This Gold Edition includes the "El Infierno" level expansion, a series of challenges set in the fires of El Infierno. Clearing them unlocks powerful new costumes for Juan and Tostada, and costumes change your hero's attributes. Steam Achievements, Leaderboards, Cloud Save, and Trading Cards are included, and you can create custom costumes and share them through Steam Workshop. The package also contains Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, an expanded version with new powers, levels, enemies, and improved gameplay and graphics. Expect plenty of chickens along the way.
