What Frogsong is
Frogsong is a top-down action RPG set in Salia, a fantasy land of frogs. You play Chorus, a tiny tree frog who wants to be a warrior. Society expects them to study religion instead, so Chorus moves to the village of Boreala and tries to train with the Defense Guild under an old veteran. Things get complicated fast: a powerful army is growing and a mysterious rumour is spreading, and Chorus has to prove they can be a hero before it's too late.
The game is played from above in hand-drawn 2D, with expressive animation on the characters. You explore the land, talk to the people you meet, and fight bugs and monsters along the way. The story deals with identity and self love, and the whole thing runs on a linear path rather than an open world.
Playing together
Frogsong lists Remote Play Together as a supported feature, so a friend can join your session over a connection rather than needing their own copy. One person owns and runs the game, and the rest follow along from there.
Beyond that, the game itself is a single story you move through as Chorus. There is no separate co-op mode or competitive mode listed, so a group plays it the way you'd watch and pass the controller on a story-driven adventure: one person driving, others weighing in on where to go next and who to talk to.
Before you start
Expect a story-first experience with combat against bugs and bosses rather than a sandbox. Five distinct areas each bring their own enemies, villages and bosses, and you can upgrade your blade at the blacksmith's shop to hit harder as things get tougher.
The game is tagged as controller-friendly, family friendly and cute, but it also carries emotional themes and LGBTQ+ content, so it's worth knowing the tone runs heartfelt rather than purely gag-driven. It's a linear journey: you follow Chorus through Salia, meet its strange and charming cast, and work toward finding your place in the world.
