What Forsaken Frontiers is
Forsaken Frontiers is a cooperative analog horror adventure set in an everlasting winter. An otherworldly storm arrived in 1988 and civilization fell apart, so the Entity Containment Division became humanity's last hope. You serve in their "workforce," heading into abandoned facilities across America to pay back the price of your survival. The setting leans on 1990s retro-future styling, with a first-person view and a moody, oppressive atmosphere. The train offers a pocket of warmth against the desolation outside, and the audio is placed precisely in space so footsteps, distant sounds and echoes tell you what is out there before you see it.
Playing together
The game supports online co-op for up to 12 players, and teamwork matters inside the facilities. Proximity voice chat means you hear other survivors based on distance, so splitting up changes what information you can share. Your character persists across saves and servers, so the identity you build stays with you. The DataDeck, a wrist-mounted computer, holds your inventory and vital readings instead of a traditional HUD, and you collect deck tapes that hold recorded messages from the past or music tracks for the trip. Loot matters, and every life lost adds to your debt.
Before you start
There are 11 unique, ever-shifting locations, each with its own hazards, and horrors hunt you with their own methods. Staying hidden and using the environment are real options. Four modes are available: Endless Mode centers on gathering resources to pay off an endlessly rising debt; Nightmare Mode is a harder, more intense version of the standard run; Escape Mode has you search for the lone elevator to the surface while gathering gear; Exploration Mode reduces difficulty for learning the ropes or a calmer playthrough.
