A new Fatal Fury built around the REV System
FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves is a 2D fighter from SNK, arriving 26 years after GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES, which had been the series' most recent installment. The series itself started back in 1991 and helped kick off the fighting game boom of the 1990s. The headline addition here is the REV System, a set of offensive tools available from the first second of a round: REV Arts, REV Accel, and REV Blows (the last only while S.P.G. is active). Pushing these too far heats up the REV Meter until it overheats, so managing that limit is part of the fight rather than something you can ignore.
Playing it with your group
Online PvP is the main way a group competes against each other, and the game ships with two control schemes so mixed-skill groups can still play on even terms. Arcade Style uses precise, technical inputs for players who already know fighting game notation. Smart Style lets you land special moves and combos with directional inputs and single button presses, which suits newcomers who want to be in the fight without learning a move list first. Pick whichever fits you and let the rest of the group do the same — the game is designed so both levels work.
What to know before you start
There is also a single-player mode, Episodes of South Town, a solo RPG adventure where you fight under various conditions, earn XP and rewards, level up your fighter, and build out a skill kit. It requires an Internet connection and a game update before you can play it, so get that out of the way first if your group wants to try it.
Be aware that the store lists several editions and season passes with overlapping content. Season Pass 1 covers Andy Bogard, Ken, Joe Higashi, Chun-Li, and Mr. Big with additional stages; Season Pass 2 covers Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, Wolfgang Krauser, Mr. Karate, and Kenshiro with additional stages; Season Pass 3 adds Rick Strowd, Duck King, Kim Kaphwan, Manjiro Sano and Ken Ryuguji, Laocorn, and a still-unannounced character, plus additional stages. The Revenge Edition bundles the base game with all three passes, and the Legend Edition bundles it with the first two. Check what you already own before buying so you don't end up with duplicate content.
