A 2.5D fighter with a big roster
GUILTY GEAR Xrd REV 2 is a 2D fighting game built on hand-polished 3D cell-animation graphics that produce a hand-drawn anime effect. The cast totals 25 characters, including Johnny, Jack-O', Kuradoberi Jam, Kum Haehyun, Raven and Dizzy from REVELATOR, plus Baiken and Answer added in REV 2. The series carries on a legacy from 1998, and the story is set in a post-apocalypse.
Playing together
Online PvP is the main way to meet up: Rank Match puts your personal ranking score on the stake, while Player Match lets you play without that pressure. In Player Match you walk around with a customizable avatar and communicate with other players in a 3D room environment. You can enter a Rank Match queue and keep playing offline modes like Training while waiting for a pairing. Match replays store both players' key inputs and let you change the camera angle. Remote Play Together is available, and cross-platform play to PS3/4 is not supported.
Learning the ropes
The game supports different skill levels. Tutorial Mode works like an action game for learning the ropes, Stylish Mode allows easy inputs for special attacks, and an in-game FAQ covers common questions about getting strong. Combo mode teaches each character's combo potential, Mission mode covers general tactics and techniques, and Training mode has enough features to recreate the situation you want for practice. Story mode is fully cinematic on the 3D graphics engine, with a short introduction to the past series at the start so newcomers to Guilty Gear can follow along.
