Fighting through Red Grave City
Devil May Cry 5 is a third-person hack and slash game where you take on a demonic invasion that begins when the seeds of a demon tree take root in Red Grave City. You play as three characters with very different combat styles: Nero, the young demon hunter who arrives in the Devil May Cry motorhome with his partner Nico; the legendary Dante; and the mysterious V. Nero has lost the use of his right arm, so Nico, a weapons artist, builds him mechanical Devil Breaker arms that give him extra powers. Battles run across the overrun city and include fights against enemies like the flying Empusa and the giant colossus Goliath, ending in big boss encounters.
Playing together with friends
The game supports online co-op, so you can run through the action alongside other players instead of tackling the demon invasion alone. Since the three playable characters each have a radically different combat style, playing together lets the group mix those approaches in the same fight. The combat is built around fast, stylish play, so coordinating who does what in a crowded encounter is where the co-op really pays off.
What to know before starting
The game is rated for mature content: the tags include gore, violence, nudity, and sexual content, so keep that in mind before you start. The action is demanding, with a difficult tag attached, so expect a learning curve as you get used to each character's moveset. The soundtrack runs through the fights and is a big part of the experience. The Vergil playable character is included in this version of the game.
