What Kings of Hell is
Kings of Hell is a 3D beat 'em up with cel shaded graphics, built in the style of early 2000s 3D brawlers. The story runs in 2112, a hundred years after the rapture, when demons rule the planet. You follow Lutin, Enfer, Gremile and Mal as they take on the current 5 Dukes of Hell, and each Duke they beat brings them closer to the throne. The one who claims it becomes King of Hell.
You pick from a large cast of demonic characters, each with their own abilities, gameplay style and combo. The starting four are Lutin Lucifer, the vigilante rockstar; Enfer Belial, the gentle giant; Gremile 'Hot Shot', the gun-toting bad boy; and Mal Leviathan, their manager and master of the seas. More characters unlock as you play.
Playing it with friends
The game supports online co-op, and the co-op is set up as cooperative competitive: you help each other take down demonic foes while competing for points to chase the title of King of Hell. Levels are densely packed sandboxes, so a group can work through the objective together or split up across the map to cause trouble in different places at once.
Combat rewards building a combo meter. As you thrash foes and the meter climbs, you can cash the combo out for devastating grabs that send opponents straight to hell. Expect a mix of working alongside your friends on big enemies and trying to outscore them while you do it.
Before you start
Fights go up against powerful and wild demonic foes, including the speed demon Mercenary Buer, the martial arts master Judge Yama, and the hulking Duke Baal. The game carries tags for gore, violence and sexual content, so it is not one for a squeamish or mixed-age group.
There is also a collection side to the run: the Trophy Viewer lets you look over the cel shaded model work, and the Sticker Gallery unlocks sticker emotes you can use in game alongside painted works of art from a range of artists. Kings of Hell is in Early Access, so content and balance can still change as you play.
