A poker table where losing costs a life
Dance of Cards is a tactical gambling RPG set over seven days aboard the ocean liner Magnific. Sixteen passengers set sail for the New World looking for a better life, then find themselves trapped in a cruel card game with no way off the ship. Each day the survivors sit down at the poker table to decide whose life is taken next. You cheat, bluff and build trust with the people around you, and everything still comes down to chance. The game mixes poker hands with RPG mechanics, so a table is not just a hand of cards but a tactical situation with characters who have their own talents and playstyles.
Playing together
The game has an Online Play mode where you can compete against other players. That is the way a group meets at the table: you take seats against each other and play out the rounds, reading what the others are doing and deciding when to push and when to fold. The rest of the experience is a single-player story about the sixteen passengers, so your group can also play it in turn and compare how each of you handled the same days, the same characters and the same gambles.
What to know before you start
Expect a top-down 2D pixel art look with colourful, cute characters played against a noir and mystery backdrop. The tone swings between dread and comedy, and the story leans on choices that matter, so decisions about who to trust are part of the game rather than flavour text. Alongside the main cruise there is a ship to explore, full of mysteries and findings, plus Additional Death Gambles for players who want extra risk. The soundtrack is built around danceable anxiety, which fits the mood of hope sitting next to dread. Turn-based tactics, card game rules and a story-rich adventure run side by side, so the game asks for patience at the table as much as nerve.
