What ColdSide is

ColdSide is a first-person psychological horror game set in an abandoned underground laboratory that once studied anomalous phenomena. You play as Chris, a digger who has decided to investigate the place on his own. The game leans on constant tension from the unknown rather than constant action, so most of the experience comes from moving through the facility, reading the space around you, and not knowing what is waiting further in. It was made with CryEngine V and aims for realistic graphics, with atmospheric music and ambient work by Mikko Tarmia, who also composed for Amnesia and Soma. The SCP Foundation is listed as an influence on the game.

Playing it with your group

ColdSide is tagged as a singleplayer game, so one person takes the role of Chris and works through the laboratory alone. Your group can still play it together through Remote Play Together, which lets friends join in over a session while one person owns and runs the game. That makes it a good pick for a Discord call where everyone watches the same descent and reacts to it in real time, even though only one player is controlling Chris. If your group prefers taking turns on the keyboard, you can hand the game over between runs and compare what each of you found.

Before you start

Go in expecting an atmospheric horror experience built around tension and exploration rather than combat or a party mode. The setting is a single abandoned facility, and the story follows one character, so there is no co-op campaign or shared objective to split up. The SCP Foundation influence means the tone sits in the vein of strange, contained anomalies studied by a secretive organization, which suits players who like slow-burn dread. Set aside a stretch of uninterrupted time, turn the sound up, and let the ambient work do its job.
