A four-way crossover fighter

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is a 2D fighting game from Arc System Works that pulls characters from four series: BlazBlue, Persona, Under Night In-Birth, and RWBY. RWBY characters appear in a fighting game here for the first time. Matches are fast 2v2 team battles, so you pick a pair of fighters rather than a single character and swap between them during the round. The game leans on the tight mechanics and quick pacing the BlazBlue series is known for, with a large cast of balanced characters and a story mode that goes deep into the crossover premise.

Playing together

Online PvP is the main way to take on other players, and the competitive side of the game is built around ranked and casual matches with your chosen team. Remote Play Together lets someone join your session over the internet even if they do not own the game, so you can hand a controller to a friend and run local-style matches from a distance. Local multiplayer is also supported, which suits a group sharing one screen and taking turns picking teams. There is a tutorial that walks through the basics before you jump into matches, and a singleplayer mode for when nobody else is around.

What to know before starting

This is the Special Edition, which bundles the base game, the Version 2.0 update, and all previously released DLC. That includes the additional characters Blake and Yang, seven additional character packs covering fighters such as Platinum=the=Trinity, Kanji Tatsumi, Orie Ballardiae, Jubei, Aegis, Carmine, Hakumen, Naoto Shirogane, Vatista, Izayoi, Mitsuru Kirijo, Merkava, Mai Natsume, Akihiko Sanada, Yuzuriha, Nine=The=Phantom, Labrys, Mika, Naoto Kurogane, Teddie, Seth, and Heart Aino, plus three additional color sets. Expect a large roster to learn, so starting with the tutorial and a smaller pool of characters keeps the 2v2 tag system manageable while you work out how swapping and team combos fit together.
