A 2D fighter built on Tsukihime

MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA is a 2D fighting game drawn from TYPE-MOON's visual novel Tsukihime, using the cast and world of Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon. Battles play out between familiar characters, with new scenarios and new characters added to the roster. The story material is written by Kinoko Nasu, and each character has their own story events, so a run through one character's route reads differently from another's. Dialogue is fully voiced and shifts depending on which two characters are fighting, which fills in more about how they relate to each other. The visuals are redone for HD, and each character's special move carries animation produced by A-1 Pictures.

How a group plays it together

The game supports online PvP, and those matches run on Rollback Netcode to keep play stable against other players. That gives a group a straightforward setup: queue up, fight each other, and rotate through the roster. Battles use the systems carried over from the MELTY BLOOD series plus the new Moon Skill, which fires powerful techniques off simple inputs. The intent is that intense matches stay reachable with simple controls, so a group mixing veterans with people who have never touched MELTY BLOOD can still play on the same footing. There is also a singleplayer side for anyone who wants to play on their own.

Before you start

If you are new, the game includes tutorials covering the basics, and each character has missions for players who want to go deeper on that character specifically. That is the natural path: tutorial first, then a character's missions, then online matches. You can also customize your title, profile icon, and character outfits for battle, and those carry into online matches, so your group will see each other's picks. A gallery collects visuals, opening cinematics, music tracks, voices, pixel art, and guest illustrations from artists connected to TYPE-MOON titles, which is worth browsing once you have played a bit. Note that MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA was not developed using Unity and is unaffected by the Unity vulnerability that prompted the MELTY BLOOD ARCHIVES update.
