Build your warship in real time

Battlecruisers is a hand-drawn real-time strategy game set in the 28th century, where rising seas have flooded the Earth and robot factions fight over the scraps of land that remain. You play as Charlie, an opportunistic utility robot who has commandeered a Trident-class battleship belonging to the world's greatest superpower. Your job is to design, build, and command this floating fortress in real time. You manage resources, construct buildings, and produce units to arm your cruiser while trying to keep it from being sunk to the watery depths. Battles take place against a backdrop of floating metal cities that pay homage to humanity's great landmarks.

Outsmart the military robots

The core of the game is building a strategically superior battlecruiser to destroy enemy warships. You start with the essentials and unlock new technology as your skills evolve, growing your arsenal with frigates, artillery, bombers, lasers, stealth generators, shields, boosters, and builder drones that speed up production. For offense, you can deploy napalm, nuke launchers, and experimental ultraweapons like the Death Star Satellite, the Ultralisk Rapid Fabrication Facility, and the Kamikaze Signal. You face off against a diabolical AI enemy with personalities like Huntress, Destruktor, and Karen, developing your own unique strategy to take them down. Each victory lets you harvest enemy warships and weaponry to expand your own forces, and you unlock new cruisers, buildings, units, and ultraweapons as you wreak destruction across Flooded Earth.

What to know before starting

This is a single-player experience focused on tactical combat and base building rather than a multiplayer mode. The difficulty scales up considerably, and the store notes that you have to be devious to beat the highest levels on the hardest difficulty. The game features a mood-dynamic soundtrack that matches the pace of each battle, and a particle system designed by an explosion-obsessed artist so that no two blasts look the same. The developers describe it as an explosive RTS with a minimalist twist, built by a small team of three people from New Zealand, Germany, and Texas.
