Commanding on the Battlefield

Banner of the Maid is a turn-based tactics game set during an alternate French Revolution. You play as Pauline Bonaparte, leading armies across battlefields and dealing with the politics of Paris. The core of the game is classic strategy RPG combat: you move units across a grid, manage their positioning, and try to outthink the enemy. You will command line infantry, skirmishers, cavalry, and artillery, all drawn from the 18th and 19th century European wars. Success comes from understanding the rock-paper-scissors relationships between unit types and using the terrain to your advantage. Weather and time of day matter too; rainstorms, heavy snow, fog, and night can change the flow of a fight and force you to adapt your plan mid-battle.

Playing Together

Banner of the Maid includes online PvP, so you and a friend can test your tactical skills against each other. Beyond direct competition, the game works well as a shared experience where one person plays through the battles and story while others watch and offer advice on unit placement and strategy. Since the combat is turn-based, there is plenty of time to discuss moves, debate the best use of a general's skill, or plan how to handle a tricky enemy formation without anyone feeling rushed.

Building Your Army and Navigating Paris

Outside of combat, you spend time in the political salons of Paris, based out of the Malmason Salon. Factions like the Royalists, the Feuillants, the Jacobins, and the Malmason circle are all vying for power, and you complete missions for them to earn prestige, funds, and rare equipment. This money goes toward improving your weaponry and supplies. The game features over 30 illustrated characters, each with their own background, skills, and personal story. As you learn about a commander's past, you unlock passive bonuses for them. You can also customize their equipment and guide them through a class promotion system to turn them into powerful leaders who can swing a battle in your favor. The anime-style art provides a distinct look against the historical setting, and the game includes content flagged for sexual themes and nudity.
