A medieval sandbox you shape yourself

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord drops you into Calradia, where an empire is tearing itself apart in civil war while new kingdoms form on its borders. You create and develop a character around your own play style, then explore, raid and trade your way across a vast open world. Beyond fighting, there's politics to navigate, weapons to craft, fiefdoms to manage, companions to recruit, and a clan to raise from nobody to noble standing. Every playthrough goes differently because the world keeps moving whether you're involved or not.

Fighting and commanding in battle

Combat is skill-based and directional: you choose where your swing comes from and where it lands, whether you're playing in first person or third person. The same system applies to the huge real-time battles where you both command your troops and fight alongside them on the field. Raising armies, positioning them, and then getting stuck in yourself is the core loop — you're a warlord who also swings the sword.

Playing with other people

Multiplayer PvP lets you test your combat against players worldwide, with ranked matchmaking and casual game modes. If your group prefers its own setup, dedicated server files let you host. On the modding side, the Bannerlord Modding Kit and Steam Workshop mean you can rework the game into something quite different and share it — including a level editor, so custom maps are on the table.

Before you start

Be ready for a game with real systems to learn: character development, army management, diplomacy and economy all sit alongside the fighting, so early sessions are about getting a feel for all of them rather than just winning battles. Achievement and Steam Cloud support are included, along with partial controller support, so keyboard and mouse is the more natural fit for the combat. It's the sequel to Mount & Blade: Warband, and it keeps that series' approach of giving you a sandbox and letting you decide what kind of power you want to build.
