A first-person melee co-op game

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a 4-player co-op action game set in the Warhammer Fantasy Battles world. You play in first person and fight in melee, cutting through endless hordes of enemies. It follows on from the first Vermintide, in a franchise known for intense and bloody close-quarters combat. The threat this time is bigger: a ruinous Chaos army combined with the swarming Skaven horde. The levels take you across the war-ravaged lands of a dying world, and each one is a self-contained stretch of fighting your way through.

Playing with your group

You take on missions with up to 3 friends, so a full group is four players. Everyone picks a hero and fights side by side; if you fall, the run can go badly for the whole team, so sticking together matters more than any single kill. The game supports online co-op and also has a single-player option if some of your group is offline. Difficulty climbs in steps — Recruit, Veteran, Champion, Legend — so a group can start low and move up together as everyone gets comfortable with the pace.

Characters and builds

There are 5 characters to choose between, and each one has 3 branching careers to learn. On top of that you get 15 different talent trees and more than 50 weapon types, which is where the RPG side comes in: you shape your own style of play rather than following one fixed setup. Getting good is largely about learning which career and weapons suit how you want to handle a horde, then refining that as the difficulty rises.

Before you start

Expect a game built around repeated runs through its levels rather than a long single story, and expect to die plenty while you learn enemy behaviour and positioning. It has full controller support, including DualShock, DualSense, and Steam Achievements for group milestones. Family Sharing is available, and the game includes Steam Trading Cards.
