A deckbuilder card battler in a dark fantasy world
War of Omens is a CCG built around a deckbuilder combat system, so you are building and playing your deck during the match rather than only before it. The design lets you do a multitude of actions per turn, which keeps battles fast while still leaving room for deep strategy. The setting is a dark fantasy world presented with hand-drawn, original artwork. You can pick from four factions: the rich and ancient Vespitole, the ruthless and savage Daramek, the mysterious Metris, and the reclusive and powerful Endazu. Each faction brings its own heroes, its own cards, and its own play style, so the matchup changes a lot depending on what both sides bring.
Playing together as a group
The competitive side is player vs player, with constructed matches and cross faction draft tournaments. On the online ladder you can all climb and compare where you land, and the draft format gives a shared event where everyone builds from the same cross faction card pool. Story mode is there for anyone who wants to work through the campaign on their own schedule. Cards can be earned through play, won, or crafted, so a group can build toward decks at its own pace and then test them against each other. The game is fully cross-platform between Steam, phone, and web, which makes it easier for a group to play together even when not everyone is on the same device.
Before you start
There are 4 separate factions and over 24 heroes, each with their own special abilities, so expect some time spent learning what each faction wants to do before you can read the board quickly. All cards can be earned through play, and the developers describe it as truly free to play, with nothing required to progress or be competitive. The project comes from two developers who are active on their Discord server and play the game themselves, so that is the place to find them and the rest of the community.
