What GWENT is

GWENT is a free-to-play card game set in The Witcher universe, built around online PvP duels. You assemble a deck, then play cards across two tactically distinct rows, melee and ranged, to pile up more points than your opponent in a round. Battles run in rounds: win two out of three rounds and you take the match. Bluffing, on-the-fly decisions and careful deck construction all matter, and the round-based structure leaves room for very different approaches regardless of what you bring.

How a group plays it together

The core of GWENT is one-on-one online PvP, so your group's matches are duels against each other or against other players. You can set up a quick online game against a friend, take on a competitive PvP challenge, or head into Arena for something more adventurous. Classic, seasonal and Arena modes give you different ways to play, and each duel is as much about reading your opponent as it is about your own cards. Watching a friend's match works too — the hand-drawn art and visual effects make every duel readable from the outside.

Cards, collection and strategy

You start with 10 cards in hand and can play each one right from the start, which means deciding immediately whether to open with your strongest unit or hold it back for later. Spells and special abilities can swing a fight dramatically, so timing matters as much as raw points. The collection grows as you play: you collect new cards and build decks from them, with a progression system designed so building a competitive collection is straightforward. Geralt, Yennefer and other iconic Witcher-world heroes are among the cards you can collect and command.

Before you start

Expect a challenge. GWENT is tagged as difficult, and the game itself says winning two of three rounds won't be easy. The skill ceiling is high — clever tricks and deception can beat brute strength — so early losses are part of learning how rounds, rows and card advantage work. The setting includes mature content, so keep that in mind. It's free to play, and the deckbuilding decisions you make before a duel carry as much weight as the plays you make during one.
