The drillship is your base
Volcanoids is a first-person survival shooter where your base moves. Instead of building a static shelter, you command a steampunk drillship that can burrow underground. The island above is hit by constant eruptions, and diving below the surface is how your crew survives them. While underground you are safe to plan the next move, then resurface to gather resources, uncover secrets, and push further into the island.
Playing with your crew
You can take on the island alone or with up to 3 other crewmates. Everyone works from the same drillship, so the group splits tasks naturally: some head out on foot to fight hostile mining robots and strip their resources, while others stay aboard to build, upgrade, and steer the ship to the next site. Robot machines roam both the surface and the tunnels below, so combat can happen on either side of the crust. Anything useful you take from them feeds straight back into your own technology.
Growing your machine
The drillship is customized from the inside out with a building system, and progress runs through technology tiers. Each tier opens up new ways to expand, automate, and weaponize parts of the ship, turning it from a basic transport into a mobile fortress. Expect the island to change as eruptions reshape it, which keeps routes and resource runs shifting between trips. The game is in Early Access, so systems may still be adjusted over time.
