What TraumaCore Violence is

TraumaCore Violence is a 2D action game about Uzi, a girl who has receded into the depths of her own psyche after her mind snaps. You fight through the levels of her inner world, which is rendered in a style the developer calls "TraumaCore": heavily edited stock and familiar images meant to create a sense of stress and dread. The combat is built around high-flying combos, an in-depth input system, and animation cancelling. Almost all attacks start on frame 1, which keeps the fights fast and snappy. Once you learn the moveset, you can chain attacks into long combos.

How a group plays it together

The full campaign has a 2-player co-op mode you can turn on in the game options. Both players take on the levels together, described as facing your problems with an imaginary friend. This mode requires two controllers to be connected. The game also supports Remote Play Together, so a friend can join over a connection rather than sitting at the same machine. Combat is PvE, so you are working together against the enemies rather than against each other.

What to know before starting

Movement is tied closely to your attacks. Each move can change or add to your momentum, so the same attack can push you in different directions or build speed depending on how you use it. Learning how each move affects your speed and direction is what unlocks the fastest play. The combo system runs on kills: every kill adds to your combo meter. You can hold the combo to the end of a level for a large point bonus, or cash it out for health instead. The choice between the two is yours each time. The game uses a controller, and the visual style leans dark, abstract, and surreal with pixel graphics.
