A voice-driven VR open-world RPG
The Broken Seal is a VR action RPG built from the ground up for virtual reality, with support for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The ancient seal has been broken and darkness is devouring the world, so you set out as the hero it needs. The core trick is voice control: instead of digging through menus, you speak or shout the spell you want to cast, which is how magic is released. Combat is built on Unreal Engine 4 physics, so different weapon types handle differently and swinging, blocking and positioning matter rather than just mashing attacks. The world itself is large and varied, taking you through forests, ancient relics, deserts and snow-covered mountains as you cleanse each area of evil.
Playing together with your group
You are not alone in this world. Multiplayer lets you quest alongside friends, and you can also summon pets to fight beside you. The Steam features list Online PvP and Remote Play Together, so there are ways to meet up and play over the internet as well as share a session locally. On top of that, a Non-VR "pancake" mode exists, so friends without a headset can still join the adventure and fight through the same quest. That means a mixed group works: some people in VR, others on a regular screen, all pushing back the darkness together.
What to know before starting
Expect a full-length game rather than a short VR demo: the store text puts the content at more than 40 hours, with levels, loot and bosses to work through. Loot drops weapons, equipment and other items during battles and quests, and you use what you find to strengthen and upgrade yourself for the fights ahead. Spells number in the dozens, each with its own characteristics that evolve as you progress, so your toolkit grows over time. Voice casting means you need a working microphone and a place where speaking or shouting out loud is fine. Development is ongoing even after leaving Early Access, with more spells, systems, areas and monsters planned, so the game keeps growing after you finish what is there now.
