A first-person trip through hell

Hellsweeper VR is a first-person action-combat game set in the demonic dimensions, made by the team behind Sairento VR. You fight your way downward with weapons, telekinesis and elemental magic, cutting through hell's twisted souls as you go. Between fights you reap rewards, upgrade your skills and pick how your character develops, so each run lets you try a different mix of combat options. The game leans on a no-holds-barred locomotion system built to push what VR players are used to, so expect to be moving constantly rather than standing still and trading shots. It is tagged as an action roguelike and souls-like, which fits the loop: descend, fight, upgrade, and see how far you get before the onslaught wins.

Playing it with friends

Online co-op is supported, with a 3-player co-op mode alongside various singleplayer modes. The co-op pitch is straightforward: survive together, die together. You and up to two friends each bring your own loadout of weapons and magic into a run, and the mix of what everyone summons and wields shapes how the group handles a given stretch. Since the game is built around combining weapons with elemental magic and telekinesis, a group can spread those tools across the team instead of everyone covering the same ground. Runs are meant to feel different each time, so two sessions with the same group will not play out the same way.

What to know before you start

There are 18 maps, more than 10 enemy types with elemental variants, and multiple mission types, which is where the replayability comes from. The enemy roster having elemental variants means you will need to keep adjusting which magic you lean on rather than settling on one answer for everything. Be aware that the locomotion system is deliberately demanding and the combat is relentless, so this is a game that expects you to be comfortable in VR and willing to fail a run before you find a style that sticks. It works singleplayer too, so you can learn the movement and the weapon-magic combinations on your own before taking a group into co-op.
