What Talvisota is
Talvisota is a community-made full conversion mod for Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, and it needs a valid installation of that game to run. It moves the fighting out of the jungles and into the frozen forests of Finland during the Soviet-Finnish Winter War of the late 1930s. It reuses most of the core gameplay mechanics from Rising Storm 2, so veterans will recognize a lot, while a lot of brand-new content was built to make the battlefield feel like its own place. Expect period-accurate Soviet and Finnish weaponry, new maps, full voice acting for both teams, all-new ambient music, historically accurate character customization, and new commander abilities and fire support.
Playing it with your group
The mod supports online PvP, so your group can split across the two sides and fight each other across the new maps. Eleven maps ship with the mod: Aittojoki, Boreal, Kollaa River, Kuhmo Outskirts, Mannerheim Line, Mantsinsaari Island, Raate Road, Salla, Summa, Suomussalmi, and Tolvajarvi. Soviet players get an armada of armored vehicles ranging from light transport tractors to heavy tanks, including the T-20 "Komsomolets" Armored Tractor, T-26 Light Tank, HT-130 Flamethrower Tank, and T-28 Medium Tank. These machines are built around teamwork: a single crewman cannot drive and work the turret at the same time, so grab a friend or two and crew a tank together. Finnish players answer with handheld anti-tank weapons and traps, including the Molotov Cocktail, plus Skis for crossing open ground quickly.
Before you start
The weapon roster mixes new additions with remastered classics. New entries include the Suomi KP/-31 SMG, L1935 Lahti Pistol, Lahti-Saloranta M/26 LMG, the "Kasapanos" Satchel Charge, Panssarimiina M/39 Anti-Tank Mine, and the Dyakonov Rifle Grenade. Returning pieces include the SVT Semi-Auto Rifle, Nagant M1895 Revolver, F1 Grenade, and Maxim HMG. The mod carries over the base game's violent and gory presentation, and it is tagged for singleplayer as well as massively multiplayer play, so you can try it on your own before coordinating with the group. Make sure Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is installed first, since Talvisota will not run without it.
