A Home-Run Roguelike with a Cast of Freaks
Super Psycho Baseball is a 3D action roguelike where you click the ball to hit dingers against a lineup of psychotic pitchers. The goal is simple: survive three innings by hitting five home runs in each one to advance. Along the way you rack up powerups, and finding the right combinations is key to defeating your adversaries. The circuit features five fully-realized pitchers, each with their own trademark pitch and personality. You will face Pitchy, a super cool and relaxed guy who is very down to earth; Piney, who has a lot of trauma; Harry, who doesn't quite know how to work a computer; Cola Man, who hates water; and a super secret final boss. All of these guys have one united goal: strike you out by any means necessary.
Playing Together on Discord
While the game is tagged as singleplayer, the Online PvP feature means you can take the challenge online. You and your friends can compare your skills by hitting dingers against the five different pitchers and seeing who can become a Psycho League Legend. Since the rules are quite easy and the action is fast, it makes for a good session where you can watch each other take on the unique characters and their pitches. The dark humor and cartoony style give you plenty to talk about as you try to conquer the gang of pitch-slinging bosses.
What to Know Before Starting
The game is currently in early access. At launch, you have access to the linear, yet challenging, ladder mode. Other features are still under construction, including the Psycho League with its ever-increasing difficulty modifiers and branching playthroughs that will let you choose paths to different enemies. The store text notes that branching paths will let you decide whether to face an elite pitcher for a better item or play it safe. Expect the experience to change as more content is added.
