A high school that is anything but normal
Super Daryl Deluxe is an RPGvania with brawler-style combat set inside Water Falls High School, a sprawling, multi-dimensional building where students and faculty have been going missing and classrooms have been locked down for weeks. You play as Daryl, an enthusiastic, bizarrely dressed new kid who shows up wanting to make friends. What begins as an effort to help jump-start a young contraband textbook business turns into a harrowing quest through enormous, monster-filled classrooms, with becoming the most popular kid in town as the goal and saving everyone's lives as the real priority. Expect cartoon violence, hundreds of characters including Julius Caesar, Mozart, and the janitor, and a story that runs more than 15 hours with minimal plot holes.
Combat and progression
Fights are brawler-style and built around a big skill pool: you can buy and upgrade over 40 skills to shape how you take enemies down. The signature moves set the tone — shooting rubber ducky arrows, pounding enemies with a rhino hammer, and helping Beethoven get his groove back. Between fights you can talk to strangers and run their errands in exchange for loot, then spend that loot on fancy equipment like a Dunce Cap or the Super Weenie Sword. The world is a sumptuous open one with scads of maps, so exploration pays off: the game encourages you to discover secrets instead of just pushing through the story.
Playing together
Super Daryl Deluxe supports Remote Play Together, which lets friends join in over a connection rather than needing everyone to own the game. The Steam tags list Co-op alongside Platformer and Metroidvania, so you can go through the school's side-scrolling, hand-drawn levels as a group. Expect the same surreal, comedic tone throughout — this is a funny, atmospheric world with a legendary soundtrack that ranges from creepy to rock opera.
Before you start
The game is a 2D side-scroller in the Metroidvania vein, so paths open up as you gain skills and equipment rather than all at once. It's tagged Singleplayer as well as Co-op, and controller support is listed, which suits the brawler combat. The tone is cartoonish and comedic rather than grim, with colorful, hand-drawn art carrying the joke. Go in ready to poke around every locked-down classroom, talk to whoever is left in the halls, and take on errands for the loot they hand over.
