What Legends of the Alliance is
Legends of the Alliance is a companion app for the Star Wars: Imperial Assault board game, a scenario-based game of tactical combat. Instead of one player running the Empire, the app takes that role for you. You and your friends become a team of Rebel heroes working to bring down the Galactic Empire. The app handles the Imperial side, so nobody has to sit out as the opposition and everybody plays on the same team. It introduces a completely cooperative way to play Imperial Assault, which changes the feel of the game from a head-to-head contest into a shared push against what the app puts in front of you.
Playing it together as a group
Everyone at the table controls Rebel heroes and decides together how to handle each situation. The app sets the challenges, deploys the Imperials, and keeps the scenario running, while your group talks through movement, attacks, and priorities the way you would around any board game. Because the Imperial decisions are handled by the app, the whole group is on the same side of the table, planning and reacting as one team rather than splitting into players versus a game master. Remote Play Together is available, so friends who are not in the same room can join the session.
Before you start
You need the physical Star Wars: Imperial Assault board game to play, since Legends of the Alliance is a companion app rather than a standalone game. The app runs a full campaign with new missions, and it can incorporate your entire collection of physical Imperial Assault products, so the pieces you already own can show up in the campaign. Expect a scenario-based structure: each mission presents a specific set of objectives and obstacles, and your team works through them tactically. Set aside time for a campaign rather than a single sitting, and make sure everyone is clear that this is the cooperative version of Imperial Assault, with the app standing in for the Empire throughout.
