What STAR WARS Battlefront II is

STAR WARS Battlefront II is a shooter that takes place across the prequel, classic, and new trilogy eras. You can fight on the ground as a trooper or a hero, take to the skies in vehicles like tanks and speeders, or pilot starfighters in space battles. The game offers both first-person and third-person views, and you can play alone through a single-player campaign that spans thirty years between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The campaign follows an elite special forces soldier who is equally capable on the ground and in space.

Playing together with friends

The multiplayer mode supports online PvP where up to 40 players fight together across the battlefield. You can join up with friends and take on roles that suit your style, whether that is holding the line as a trooper, riding in vehicles, or picking off enemies as a hero. Space combat is its own separate mode where up to 24 players pilot starfighters in dogfights, taking down capital ships and dodging hazards like asteroid fields. There is also online co-op available if you prefer working with others against the game rather than against other players.

What to know before starting

You can practice offline first to get a feel for the controls and earn rewards, then bring those upgrades into online matches. Heroes and troopers each have unique abilities you can customize and upgrade, including ability modifiers that change how your core powers work. The Celebration Edition includes the base game with all free updates, over 25 hero appearances, more than 125 trooper and reinforcement appearances, over 100 emotes and voice lines, and more than 70 victory poses. Customization content released after December 20, 2019 is not included. Controller support is available if you prefer playing with a gamepad.
