A Jedi student under Luke Skywalker

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy puts you in the role of a new student training under Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. You learn the ways of the Force, interact with famous Star Wars characters, and travel to classic Star Wars locations. Along the way you face a choice between the light side and the dark side. You build your own lightsaber from handle to blade, and as you progress you gain access to two lightsabers at once or the double-bladed version made famous by Darth Maul. New vehicles, weapons, force powers and locations show up as you go, and a level selection system lets you pick your own missions and adventures rather than following a fixed order.

Playing with friends

The game supports Online PvP and Remote Play Together, so your group can meet up over the internet or share a session from one machine. Six multiplayer modes are available, including team-based siege mode and a two-on-one power duel. Fights take place across 23 multiplayer arenas, which gives plenty of variety when you are rotating opponents or splitting into teams. Swordplay sits alongside shooting, so matches can turn from a blaster duel into a lightsaber clash in seconds.

Before you start

Character creation happens before you enter the Academy: you define both the look and the gender of your character, and a female protagonist is an option. The game can be played in first person or third person, so pick whichever view suits the fight you are in. It is a classic title with RPG and hack-and-slash elements mixed into the action, and it is moddable, which means the community has kept adding to it over the years. The singleplayer campaign and the multiplayer modes are separate experiences, so a group that wants to play together should head for the multiplayer side once everyone has the game.
