Heavy trucks against mud, snow, and water

SnowRunner puts you in the cab of 40 vehicles from brands such as Ford, Chevrolet, and Freightliner, then turns them loose on an untamed open world. The terrain reacts to what you bring to it: mud that gives way under weight, torrential water, snow, and frozen lakes all respond to your truck's weight, speed, and momentum. The game leans into that simulation rather than around it. You read the ground ahead, pick a line that will not strand you, and commit. Getting stuck is part of the job, so winching, recovery, and careful route planning matter as much as throttle control.

Working with a group

The game runs solo or with up to 3 friends in online co-op, so a four-person crew can divide the work across a mission. One player can scout the route ahead, another can handle the load, and a third can bring recovery gear to pull trucks out when they bog down. The team-based, PvE focus means you are working against the environment together rather than against each other. With four vehicles moving at different weights and speeds, the terrain stays in play for everyone, and the job only finishes once the delivery is made.

Preparing the fleet

Customization is central to how you approach a mission. Upgrades and accessories change what a truck can handle, not just how it looks. An exhaust snorkel lets you push through deep water that would otherwise drown the engine, and chain tires help bite into snow. Before each run, the question is practical: what is the load, what stands between you and the drop point, and does the current setup have what it takes. Different vehicles suit different jobs, so keeping a varied fleet ready is worth the investment.

Before you start

Expect an atmospheric, realistic driving sim more than a traditional racer. Sessions are about momentum management and terrain reading rather than lap times, and the open world invites exploration between objectives. The environments are inspired by North American and Eurasian wilderness, and they are large enough that route choice changes the difficulty of a delivery. Play in a comfortable headset if you like the immersion; the terrain physics engine and the sound of a loaded truck working through mud and snow carry a lot of the experience. If you are bringing a group, settle on roles early and come ready to help a teammate who has put their truck somewhere regrettable.
