A slow drive through wild country

Over the Hill drops you into a large open wilderness built for driving rather than racing. You take the wheel of iconic 4x4 vehicles from the 60s to the 80s and pick your own way across valleys, forests, lakesides and mountains. There is no finish line to chase here. The point is to find a route that works, deal with whatever the terrain throws at you, and enjoy the trip. Weather shifts as you go and a day/night cycle keeps changing the light, so the same trail can feel like a different place depending on when you cross it.

Playing together with friends

The whole world can be tackled solo or with up to three friends in online co-op. Everyone drives their own vehicle and works together on the obstacles in the way. Some gaps are too wide to roll across, so you lay down planks and drive over them. Stuck or sunk into rough ground, you deploy a winch to pull a vehicle free. Choosing the right gear before a stretch of trail matters, and the group has to decide together whether to plan a careful route or improvise through a tricky section. Along the way you can stop to photograph native wildlife to fill out your wildlife compendium, or just frame a sunset or a landmark worth keeping.

Before you set out

Bring patience. This is an exploration game with driving at its core, so progress comes from reading the land and picking a line, not from speed. The world hides remote cabins, scenic viewpoints, natural landmarks, fallen meteorites and portals that open up new areas, so wandering off the obvious path pays off. Merchants and cabins let you swap colours, accessories and cosmetics on your vehicle, and upgrades scattered across the map help with tougher terrain ahead. Expect the conditions to change on you mid-journey and be ready to change your plan with them.
