A 26-fighter crossover from 1999
SNK VS. CAPCOM: THE MATCH OF THE MILLENNIUM is a 2D fighting game from 1999 where fighters from both companies share one roster. You get 26 characters drawn from KOF, SAMURAI SHODOWN, STREET FIGHTER, and DARKSTALKERS, so the matchups mix series that never normally meet. It runs on Steam with pixel graphics and the feel of that era's handheld fighter.
Modes and battle styles
You can pick Single, Tag, or Team-based fighting, plus there are three different battle styles to choose from, so the same roster can be played in several ways. Between bouts there is Survival, Time Attack, and Mini Games. Points you collect in those unlock hidden characters, which gives you a reason to work through the side content before or after the main fights.
Playing together
The game supports 2 player local co-op, so you can sit one next to the other and play through the night. Remote Play Together is also listed as a Steam feature, which lets a friend join you from their own machine as you play. Both routes keep the action on one shared screen, in the same arcade spirit as the original.
Before you start
Set aside time to learn the roster rather than expecting to master it immediately: 26 characters with three battle styles and three structure types is a lot of combinations. Also note that the Steam tags list both Singleplayer and Multiplayer, while the store text only specifies 2 player local co-op for playing with others, so confirm how you want to set up a session before inviting the group.
