A casual kung fu duel
Shaolin vs Wutang 2 is a one on one fighting game built as an indie love letter to martial arts and classic Kung Fu films. It leans on hand to hand and weapon combat, with fighting sounds taken from films and a licensed soundtrack. The visuals aim for the look of 70s and 80s Kung Fu cinema rather than flashy effects, so expect readable, grounded exchanges instead of spectacle. The developer is explicit that this is not trying to match big budget fighting games, and that it is made for casual fans rather than hardcore fighting game players. It is a passion project made by one person with deep knowledge of Kung Fu films, and the goal is a satisfying session that carries some nostalgia for that era of cinema.
Playing together
The game supports Single Player and Local Co-op, so you can sit down with a friend and fight each other locally. Remote Play Together is available, which lets someone join in over a connection rather than sharing the same room. Either way the format stays the same: two fighters, one on one, no teams or larger lobbies. Every fighter has their own unique moves and combos, so picking different characters gives you different matchups to explore across a session.
What's on offer before you start
There are 20 inspired characters and 20 stages to work through, with three times as many moves as the first Shaolin vs Wutang. Combat covers both hand to hand and weapons, and blocking uses dynamic animations rather than a single fixed pose. The soundtrack is a new licensed Kung Fu collection, and the sound design uses authentic fighting sounds from films. Since the game is aimed at casual play, you can go in expecting approachable fights with plenty of character variety rather than the depth and precision of a competitive fighter.
