What Schwarzerblitz is
Schwarzerblitz is a 3D fighter built in the style of the low-poly arcade fighters of the '90s. It runs on a five button system: Guard, Punch, Kick, Tech and Trigger, with 8-way movement in a full 3D arena. Most attacks chain into each other, so you can build long strings rather than relying on single hits. Impact attacks knock opponents flying, and if they happen near the edge of the stage they go out of the ring entirely, since ring outs are a core mechanic across the more than 40 stages. Trigger attacks spend a bullet counter to break the opponent's guard and add hitstun for bigger combos, and the same resource works defensively: a trigger guard or combo breaker cancels hitstun mid-combo so you can strike back.
Playing it together
Schwarzerblitz supports local multiplayer with either joypads or a split keyboard, so two people can share one screen and one machine. Controls can be remapped in-game, and both XInput and DirectInput joypads are supported, which makes it easy to get everyone set up before the first match. Remote Play Together is available, so friends who are not in the same room can join a session over the network. Beyond versus, the game includes arcade, survival and time-attack modes, and a gallery with an arcade ending theater for going back over what you unlocked.
Before you start
The story mode runs about five hours and ties the arcade endings together into one overarching plot set in 2065, following the Delta Team's hunt for the secret government project called Schwarzer Blitz after the destruction of Euterpe. It uses CG cutscenes and includes classic arcade endings per character. There are 28 playable characters with more than 100 skins, roughly four each, and every character has an extended movelist listing all possible chains, so there is real depth to dig into. The training mode shows frame advantage data along with tutorials and trials, which is the right place to learn the combo and trigger systems before taking them into a match. The engine is moddable with Steam Workshop support if your group wants to add to it later.
