What SAMURAI WARRIORS 5 is

SAMURAI WARRIORS 5 is a tactical action game, part of the WARRIORS series. You cut through large groups of enemies, push across battlefields, and work toward the objectives a stage sets for you. The game revamps the historical period covered by the first SAMURAI WARRIORS from 2004, running from the end of the Ōnin War to the Incident at Honnōji. The story puts the focus on the lives of Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi, with new designs and additional officers across the roster. A total of 27 officers take part, including a young Nobunaga Oda, daimyō Yoshimoto Imagawa, Toshimitsu Saitō, and Kōga ninja Mitsuki.

Playing it with friends

Steam lists Online Co-op for this game, so you can team up and fight through battles together. The same WARRIORS loop applies with company: clear crowds, hold ground, and back each other up as the stage's objectives shift. Co-op sits alongside the singleplayer experience, so you can also run the story on your own and group up when you want a shared session. Local Co-Op and Multiplayer appear among the game's tags as well, so there are more than one way to play together. Whether you split up or stick close, the crew that keeps pressure on the map and supports each other's officer choices will have an easier time of it.

Before you start

Character Customization is available, so you can adjust how your officer looks before heading in. The story spans the warring states era and rebuilds familiar characters, so expect new takes on officers you may already know rather than a direct continuation of the old designs. New actions were added to the WARRIORS moveset, giving the combat a different feel from earlier entries. A Trial version lets you play the earlier portions of the story, and its save data carries over to the retail version, provided the game is updated with the latest patch first. Be aware that the store also carries a Digital Deluxe Edition and a Season Pass with additional scenarios, BGM sets, weapon sets, and horses, so check which version you are looking at before buying.
