Two survivors, one flood

Sam & Dan: Floaty Flatmates is a co-op VR game set after a world flood. You play as Sam or Dan, stuck in your apartment while your buddy sits trapped in a building across the street. The goal is simple to say and messy to do: gather supplies, build a bridge toward the boat, and both of you get to safety. You start in the middle of the apocalyptic storm with nothing, so the first minutes are spent searching the place for weapons and tools. Watch your step around the water — there is a really big shark down there, and falling in is not a plan.

Playing together

Communication is the whole point. You and your friend are in separate buildings, so you have to talk things through and split the work: one finds supplies, the other figures out what is missing, and the bridge only goes up when both sides pull their weight. The game gives you tools to make talking easier, including a tin can that works as a can phone. The Steam features list online co-op and online PvP, so you can team up or go against each other depending on the mode.

Two ways to play

The main mode is the co-op run described above: build the bridge, reach the boat, survive. A completed game can take up to an hour, and once you reach the end there is still time to hunt for easter eggs. The other mode is quick competitive rounds about murder — build a bridge before your enemy does, reach the bow, and start firing arrows into his face. Rounds are short, so aim practice pays off.

Before you start

The game is free to play. There is DLC, but it is purely cosmetic: a party hat and confetti rain, nothing that changes how the game plays. It is tagged as VR and multiplayer, so plan for a headset and a friend who has one too. It is also available for arcades on SpringboardVR.
