Surviving on the open sea

Raft starts you on a tiny raft with nothing but a hook made of old plastic, drifting on a vast blue ocean with no land in sight. Thirst and hunger are immediate problems, so the first work is catching debris that floats past with the hook, then turning it into tools, equipment and crop plots. Reefs below the surface and islands above are worth scavenging when you can reach them. A man-eating shark is always a threat to you and to the raft itself, so defense is part of daily routine rather than an occasional event.

Playing with friends

The game runs solo or in online co-op, so your group can share one raft and split the work: some people fish debris out of the water, others craft, farm, cook or defend the hull. Everyone contributes to the same floating home, which grows from scattered wreckage into a much larger structure with more room for storage, crafting stations and living space. Along the way the raft carries you toward forgotten and dangerous islands, where you drop anchor to explore, fight through what you find there, and uncover the story of the people who lived there.

Worth knowing before you start

Progress is tied to research: the research table unlocks new things to craft, so you need to gather and study materials rather than only build. Farming and cooking take real time and space on the raft, and diving for resources means stopping and anchoring, which leaves you stationary in open water. Bring friends who enjoy a slow build-up of systems, since the loop is gather, craft, research, expand and sail onward. Navigation matters too: sailing to new destinations is how you reach fresh challenges and items, so a raft that never moves will not get you far.
