What Rock Life is

Rock Life: The Rock Simulator puts you in control of a rock. That is the whole premise, and the game takes it seriously: you explore the environment, sit in it, and take in the surroundings from the perspective of something that does not move much. The focus is on atmosphere and on the quiet experience of being part of nature rather than on objectives or progression. You can become different rocks as you go, so the shape and kind of rock you are playing changes over time. The simulation is built around idling and soaking up the setting, which fits the casual, laid-back pace the game aims for.

Playing it with friends

Rock Life supports online co-op, so you can play as a rock alongside other people. Everyone takes on the role of a rock in the same environment, and the shared session is about being there together rather than competing or coordinating around tasks. There is no team structure or scoring described for the co-op mode; it is simply a group of rocks sharing the same space. That makes it an easy pick for a Discord group that wants something low-pressure to hang out in while talking, since nobody has to keep track of rules or turns.

Before you start

You can play on desktop or in Virtual Reality, and the game is tagged as asymmetric VR, which means players on different setups can still end up in the same session. Expect a first-person view and a 3D environment built around realism, with a cute and sometimes eerie tone depending on where you are in the world. The game is described as an idler, so long stretches without input are part of the design rather than a sign that something is wrong. Going in expecting action or a story will leave you disappointed; the point is the setting, the mood, and the joke of being a rock, carried as far as the game can take it.
