Driving the endless neon highway
Retrowave drops you into an idealized '80s future of neon lights, palm trees and synthwave, where '80s supercars speed down an endless highway. You start with one car, then spend the money earned at the end of each run to upgrade its performance or buy new cars. The road is not empty: watch out for other vehicles, because even in the future there is traffic. The game offers 22 cars, more than 20 different universes to race through, and 4 different game modes.
Playing together with your group
Retrowave includes Online PvP, so your group can race against each other rather than only against the traffic. Beyond racing, the game is built around a visual and sound experience: more than 45 different synthwave tracks play as you drive, and the retro-futuristic atmosphere carries the whole run. Sessions are short and repeatable, which suits passing the controls around or running a few rounds while the rest of the group watches.
Before you start
Expect a runner-style arcade loop rather than a simulation of real driving: each run ends, you collect money, and you spend it on performance upgrades, new colors and wheels. The four game modes give you different ways to spend time on the highway, and the 20-plus universes change the scenery between runs. The game leans hard into its '80s and 1990's influences, so the appeal is as much the music and the look as the driving itself.
