What Regular Human Basketball Is
Regular Human Basketball is a 2D competitive party game from Powerhoof where the sport is played from inside a giant mechanical human. Each team controls one of these machines, and controlling it is the whole challenge: thrusters, all-terrain wheels, and a flailing magnet-arm all have to be operated together. The store text leans hard into comedy, so expect chaos, confusion, and upside-down machines as often as clean plays. Six titanic arenas are available to dunk in, along with an advanced face generator for your machine's look and a pumping 80s hip-hop soundtrack. Physics handle the flailing and flopping, and lifelike simulation covers over 4 human emotions.
Playing Together
This is built for groups. A match can be 1 on 1, or you can bring in friends to help run one machine, with one person on the magnet, another rotating it into position, and others handling thrusters and wheels. Yelling orders and flipping switches at the same time is the core of the co-op experience. You can play online or in splitscreen for 2 or more players, add Steam friends to your party to battle each other, and challenge other teams online, which requires a non-private Steam community profile. Local play supports a huge number of controllers, and the store text asks whether you can achieve harmonious dunking with 10 players all pressing buttons. Online PvP, Remote Play Together, and local co-op are all supported, so the same group can play on one screen or across the internet. You can also invade an opponent's machine and disable their thrusters while they try to chase you out.
Before You Start
Know that the machine is deliberately awkward to control, and that's the game. Expect to flip upside-down, get squished by a well-meaning buddy, and lose your magnet at the worst moment. The store text jokes that physics in video games are always perfect, but the tone makes clear that failure is part of the fun. Plan for a learning curve where your team has to agree on who controls what before the match gets frantic. The commentary is described as realistic basketball commentary from real human commentators, so the audio will be part of the experience alongside the soundtrack.
