Building your space empire
Race for the Galaxy is a card-driven strategy game where you grow a colony from Earth's former settlements into a thriving galactic power. Each turn you choose one of six actions — Explore, Settle, Develop, Trade, Consume, or Produce — and every player commits to a choice at the same time. The trick is deciding which action benefits you most right now while reading what your rivals are likely to pick. The card pool holds ninety settlement and development cards, plus five starting worlds, so no two games build the same way. You are chasing the most prosperous and powerful empire, and the route there shifts with every hand you draw.
Playing together over the network
The game supports 2 to 4 players in network multiplayer, so your group can sit down for a match without needing everyone in the same room. Because action selection happens simultaneously, turns move quickly even with a full table — you lock in your choice, reveal together, then resolve. Watching which cards other players settle and develop tells you where the galaxy is heading and lets you pivot your own plan. If you want to practice before a group session, the single player mode runs against an advanced neural network AI that plays the same card pool.
What to know before starting
This is a board game port, so the depth comes from card synergies rather than twitch reflexes. Expect a learning curve around the six action types and how Produce feeds into Consume and Trade — the engine you assemble matters more than any single card. The base set ships with five starting worlds, and the New Worlds promo pack adds six more starting planets to widen your opening options. The Gathering Storm and Rebel Vs. Imperium expansions are available right away if your group wants a bigger card pool from the start.
