What Potion Explosion is
Potion Explosion is the official digital adaptation of the tabletop puzzle board game. You play a wizard trying to complete potion recipes. Each potion needs specific ingredients, and you collect those ingredients from a dispenser by picking one at a time. When you pull an ingredient out, the ones above it slide down. If two ingredients of the same type then touch, they explode and you collect those too, which is where the chain reactions come from. Gather enough and you cook the potion, score points, and get to use its effect before starting on the next recipe. The wizard with the most points at the end wins.
How a group plays it together
The game supports Solo, Online, and Local Pass & Play modes, so your group can split up between online matches and people sharing one screen. In Solo you face up to 3 adjustable AIs, which is a decent way to learn the dispenser logic before playing against real people. Online matches put you against wizards from anywhere, with a worldwide leaderboard to track how you rank. Local Pass & Play lets people take turns on the same device, which suits a group sitting together.
What to know before starting
Your ingredient tank has limited space, so anything you do not use immediately has to fit until your next turn. Planning which ingredient to pull, and which chain reaction it will set off, is the core of the strategy. Different potions push you toward different playstyles, so the recipe you chase matters as much as the explosions you trigger.
One important note: online functionality is currently suspended because the game's provider ceased operation, and a new online integration is in development. The game also tries to connect to servers at startup, which can prevent it from loading. The developer's workaround is to switch Steam to offline mode, disconnect the internet, start the game, open the Online section, begin a login, cancel it, close the game, then reconnect and restart. Offline play is restored by following those steps.
