A doodly planet-defender roguelike

Paper Planet is a top-down shooter where you defend a planet against waves of enemies and bosses, drawn in a hand-drawn, Flash-inspired style. Each run throws different enemies at you, with behaviors and attack patterns that get more difficult as it goes on. Between waves you pick up items, and that is where the game gets strange: every item is built to combine with every other item, so you can end up with swarms of bee-bullets, walls of electricity, or teleporting rocket bombs. Items with wacky effects stack into runs that get genuinely overpowered, and finding new combinations is a big part of the replay value.

Playing together

The game supports 1-4 players in local co-op, so a group can sit around one screen and defend the planet together. The store page also lists Remote Play Together, which lets friends join over a network as if they were local. Either way, the chaos scales with the number of people on screen: more players means more bullets, more item combos, and more chances to overlap on a screen already full of enemies.

What to know before starting

This is a roguelike, so runs are meant to be repeated. Expect to lose some and try again with a different build. Along the way there are different game modes and challenges to pick from, plus bosses with their own personalities and specialized combat mechanics that reward learning their patterns. You can also chase high scores, gamble on a risky Cursed Item build for an absurd power spike, or just hunt for item combinations you have not seen before. The game is tagged as family friendly, and it has a singleplayer mode if you would rather play alone.
