A coloring book turned into a turf war

Outside the Lines is a free top-down twin-stick shooter where drawing utensils fight over a coloring book, each trying to cover as much of the page as possible with their own color. The rounds are short and fast, so a match is over before anyone gets bored. The game was originally built in three days for a game jam, and it keeps that quick, arcade-like feel.

Three characters and eleven tools of the trade

There are three playable characters, each with a different ability, and only one of them has a name without alliteration. Weapons number eleven in total and come with randomized stats, so a loadout can include things like a cotton swab, a dish sponge, or a paintball shotgun. Randomized stats mean no two picks behave exactly the same, which keeps rounds from feeling repetitive. Watch out for the eraser dude, who shows up sometimes and is genuinely scary.

Playing together on one screen

Local multiplayer supports two players, with both a co-op mode and a competitive mode available. The co-op side lets you and a friend work together, while the competitive side is where friendships get ruined and then rebuilt. Steam's Remote Play Together feature is listed, so a friend can join in remotely. The game is free with no microtransactions.
