What's in the collection

Namco Museum Archives Volume 2 gathers eleven titles from Namco's 8-Bit era. Ten of them are classic Namco releases, some of which were never localized and released in the west, and the eleventh is an 8-Bit consolized version of Gaplus, included as a bonus. The lineup covers a lot of ground: Galaga, Battle City, Pac-Land, Dig Dug II, Super Xevious, Mappy-Land, Legacy of the Wizard, Rolling Thunder, Dragon Buster II, Mendel Palace, and Gaplus. Everything runs in the pixel graphics style of the period, so expect simple sprites, short rounds, and arcade pacing rather than long campaigns.

Playing it with friends

The collection is tagged as singleplayer, so each person plays through the games on their own. Remote Play Together is supported, which lets someone join in over a friend's stream and take a hand at the controls from their own machine. That fits the arcade roots of these titles well: hand the pad around, chase each other's scores, and see who can get furthest in Battle City or hold out longest in Rolling Thunder. Since the games are short and restart fast, taking turns works naturally without anyone sitting out for long.

Before you start

Two modern functions are built in. The save function lets you interrupt the game at any point and pick it up again later, which is handy for the tougher stages where a single mistake ends the run. The replay function lets you start over at the last minute, so a bad stretch does not have to cost you the whole attempt. Keep in mind that these are 8-Bit era games: difficulty comes in quick bursts, levels are compact, and the controls stay deliberately simple. Some of the included titles never made it to the west before, so Volume 2 is as much a way to play unfamiliar Namco releases as it is to revisit known ones.
