SNK 40th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION gathers 24 games from SNK's 1980s arcade era into one package. The lineup covers a lot of ground: Alpha Mission, Athena, Crystalis, Ikari Warriors, Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road, Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue, Guerrilla War, P.O.W.: Prisoners of War, Prehistoric Isle, Psycho Soldier, Street Smart, TNK III, Vanguard, Chopper I, Fantasy, Munch Mobile, SASUKE vs COMMANDER, Time Soldiers, Beast Busters, Bermuda Triangle, Ozma Wars, Paddle Mania, S.A.R. - Search and Rescue, and World Wars. Genres run from platformers and shoot 'em ups to run-and-gun military action, all in 2D pixel graphics.
Playing together
Remote Play Together lets a group join in from their own setups while one person hosts. Since the collection is a stack of separate arcade games, the host picks a title and everyone plays along. It works well for taking turns chasing a personal best on the same game, or for passing the controller around a varied set of classics.
What to know before starting
Both arcade and console versions of the games are included, so a group can compare how a title plays in each form. Rewind and save are available at any time, which takes some of the sting out of the hard difficulty typical of 1980s arcade games. Watch mode lets you sit back and view a run instead of playing. Control schemes have been redesigned for modern pads, and the games render at 4K resolution. Museum Mode holds an extensive history of SNK with high definition artwork and promotional material, useful reading between rounds.
