What the game is

Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame 2 is a motocross racing game built around the Monster Energy AMA Supercross 2018 Championship. You ride official 250SX and 450SX bikes against more than 80 championship riders, including Jason Anderson, Marvin Musquin and Eli Tomac. The racing leans toward simulation, so leaning, starting, braking, cornering and scrubbing all matter when you try to hold a line through the whoops and berths.

The career mode is structured around a weekly agenda. From Monday through race weekend you complete challenges, meet fans and hunt for sponsors, and the prizes you earn feed back into your fame and your unlocks. Between events you head to the Compound, a large free-ride area with four tracks where you can practise on your own or race rivals to sharpen specific skills.

Playing it with friends

Online PvP is where the group comes in. You line up against each other on the same tracks and settle it over a moto, with the usual racing stakes: starts, corner exits and not casing the rhythm sections decide it. Because the game is built on real Supercross track layouts, everyone who has put time in the Compound recognises the rhythm lanes and braking bumps, which makes close racing feel fair rather than random.

The upgraded track editor adds another way to spend an evening together. You design, build and share custom tracks with the community, so one person can build a track and the rest of the group can race it. The editor now has additional features and a simplified graphic interface, so getting a track from idea to shared layout takes less friction than before.

Before you start

Expect a game that rewards practice. The Compound exists specifically to drill leaning, starting, braking, cornering and scrubbing, and the career mode expects you to work through a schedule rather than just queue for races. Customisation is deep: more than 3000 objects for the bike, plus avatar options covering beards, tattoos, earrings, hats, skin, eye, hair and eyebrow colours, and a choice of victory celebration. None of that changes how the bike handles, but it does mean your rider and machine look distinct on the gate.

If your group wants a shared project, the track editor is the piece to look at first. If your group wants to compete directly, Online PvP against the 80-plus roster of official riders is the core of it.
