What MXGP 2021 is
MXGP 2021 is the official motocross game from Milestone S.r.l., built around the 2021 MXGP and MX2 seasons. You get more than 40 riders, the official bikes and teams from both categories, plus the sponsors, accessories and tracks of the 2021 championship. Three older tracks are included as well: Ottobiano in Italy, Ernee in France and Leon in Mexico. The game leans into simulation, so the riding is meant to feel like handling a real bike rather than a casual arcade racer. There is a singleplayer side and online PvP for when you want to race other people.
Playing together
Online PvP is the main way a group meets up. You can race opponents on custom tracks built with the track editor, and Race Director mode lets one of you set up events and manage how the session runs. Waypoint mode in Playground 2.0 is another group option: place a sequence of checkpoints to lay out your own route, then race it and challenge friends online. The track editor lets you pick a terrain type, build the layout and customise the details, and tracks made by other players can be downloaded and shared, so a group can keep rotating through new courses.
Before you start
The career mode starts you in MX2, where you can create your own team or join an official one. Your results feed into progression and into the contracts you can sign with teams and sponsors, so it pays to take the early races seriously if you plan to stick with it. Customisation runs deep, with more than 100 authentic brands available for bikes and riders, which means there is time to sink into menus before you even hit the track. Since the core is simulation, expect a learning curve on the bikes rather than instant speed.
