What MINDNIGHT is
MINDNIGHT is a free online social deduction game set in a cyberpunk San Francisco in 2038, where cities have crushed the open internet and networks are locked by security nodes that NTF agents maintain. Hackers have spent years trying to break in. Every match assigns you a random role: you are either an Agent or a Hacker. Hackers know who their fellow hackers are, while an Agent only knows their own identity. Your team must capture three nodes to win, with Hackers trying to hack three nodes and Agents needing to secure three out of five. The game leans on deceit, accusations and unpredictability, testing your ability to lie and to spot others who are lying.
Playing together
Matches run with online matchmaking for 5-8 players, and there are 3 game modes plus custom games with voice chat. Chat features include 30 custom emojis, and there are 100 skins for customization. The game carries tags for Co-op, Tactical, Party-Based RPG, Multiplayer, Social Deduction and Strategy, alongside a great soundtrack and pixel graphics. Text-based play means reading what others say and deciding how far to trust them.
Before you start
The developers recommend playing in English when using the normal queue. If you cannot communicate in English, you can create custom games with friends and play in your own language. MINDNIGHT is described as tribute to social party games such as The Resistance and Werewolf, and the team is looking into other tabletop deduction social games to bring new features and modes through updates. The game was created initially in an internal game jam. Tags include Difficult, Funny, Atmospheric, Hacking, Mystery, Casual and Replay Value, so expect rounds that shift depending on who is bluffing.
