What Ludus Magnatus is

Ludus Magnatus: Gladiator Manager Simulator is a management game set in an alternate Ancient Rome. You take charge of a ludus, one of sixteen clubs, and start out in Division VII. From there you recruit fighters, buy weapons and armour from the market, and push your club up through fully simulated seasons and matches. The AI in those matches plays the way real players do, so results come from the same decisions anyone else would face. Matches are fast and dramatic, and fighters can grow into legends or fall forever in the arena. Victories build a fighter's fame, and the choices you make along the way shape how each one develops.

Playing with friends

The game supports Online PvP, and you can invite friends to manage rival ludi. When you do, your battles run synced, so both sides see the same fight play out and it comes down to who built the better stable. Between fights there is plenty to compare: how fast your recruits turned into contenders, how your club's reputation climbed, and who reached promotion first. Rivalry runs through the whole ladder, so a group can track who is ahead across full seasons rather than a single match.

Before you start

This is Early Access, so the game is still being developed and things can change as it is worked on. Expect a management loop rather than direct control of the fighting: you recruit, equip, invest in staff, and then watch the simulated matches play out. Investing in scouts, doctors and trainers is part of building a strong ludus, so budgeting between fighters and support staff is a constant decision. The structure is nonlinear and choices matter, meaning there is no single correct way to run your club. Picking one of the sixteen clubs at the start sets your position in Division VII, and everything after that — momentum, rivalries, promotion, and the title of champion of the Empire — comes from how you handle the seasons ahead.
