What Liftoff®: Micro Drones is
Liftoff®: Micro Drones is a simulator built around the micro drone class, part of the Liftoff® Drone Simulations series. The focus is FPV flying: you see the flight from the drone's own perspective, and the game leans on physics-based handling rather than arcade shortcuts. Indoor spaces are the setting, so ordinary rooms, corridors and urban areas turn into flight courses where you weave through gaps and find lines of your own. The game also offers a third-person view when you want to watch the drone from outside instead of from the cockpit.
This instalment adds enhanced graphics and a refined user interface over earlier Liftoff® titles, so the menus and the visual presentation are cleaner than what you may remember from the previous games.
Playing together
Online PvP is the competitive side of the package. You can race and compete against other players over the internet, which suits groups that want to settle who actually has the fastest line through a course. Alongside the online modes there is a range of singleplayer modes for when nobody else is online, so practice and solo runs are always available.
The game is tagged for esports play, which fits the format: repeatable courses, comparable times, and enough depth in the flight model that improvement comes from practice rather than from unlocking parts.
Building your own content
A dedicated drone editor and a track editor are included. That means you can put together your own micro drone setups and lay out your own courses, then fly them yourself or bring them into multiplayer sessions. For a group, this is the part that keeps things fresh: someone designs a track, everyone else tries it, and the course gets refined over a few rounds.
Before you start
Expect a simulator rather than a casual toy. The flight model is physics-based and the game is tagged for controller support, so a gamepad or transmitter-style controller is worth setting up before your first session. The FPV camera view is the default way to fly, and it takes a bit of getting used to if you have never flown a drone sim before; the third-person view is there as an alternative.
The game covers singleplayer and multiplayer, runs in 3D, and includes first-person and third-person perspectives. It is tagged as relaxing as well as competitive, which matches the two ways to use it: quiet solo exploration of indoor spaces, or head-to-head racing with friends.
