What Kemono Mahjong is

Kemono Mahjong is a full implementation of Japanese Riichi Mahjong, not a tile-matching solitaire. You play the real 4-player game where strategy matters as much as luck. The rules follow the European Mahjong Association (EMA) standards, so you are learning a version that is actually played in organized competition. The tile work is deliberately clear: there are traditional and simplified tile sets, so you can pick whichever reads best on your screen. Around the table sits a colourful cast of characters, and the whole package is backed by music that runs through your sessions.

Playing it with your group

Four players sit at one table, and you get two ways to fill those seats. Play against three CPU opponents when you want a table right now, or go online and take the seats with your friends. It is turn-based, so nobody is rushed and you can talk through your hands between plays. As the same four people return to the table, the interesting part becomes reading what the others are discarding, deciding when to push for a win and when to bail out, and watching someone else's risky call blow up in their face.

Before you start

Riichi has more rules than the basic mahjong many people grew up with, and scoring can look dense at first. Use the built-in tutorials and the in-game help before your first real game; they were made with new players in mind and cover what you need to get through a hand. Settle on one tile set for your group early — traditional or simplified — so everyone is reading the same symbols. The game offers multiple languages, which helps if your group does not all share one. Expect a learning curve on calls, yaku and scoring, then expect it to click once you have played a few hands together.
